Costa refuses to waive water charges

The State Water Minister says he is open to irrigators' suggestions about dealing with fixed water charges, but he still will not be waiving them.

Phillip Costa met irrigators and rice growers officials in the region yesterday.

Southern Riverina irrigators are refusing to pay fixed water charges because of a lack of water allocation.

Mr Costa says he has told irrigators that he will consider any creative or innovative ideas they put forward about the problem.

"I've already asked my office to see what we can do. I won't be removing the fixed charges, but there might be other ways that we can actually manoeuvre through a very difficult time," he said.
