Qld praised for couch potato fight

Posted November 21, 2008 13:45:00

Queensland has been praised for pulling its weight in the nation's battle against obesity, with the best programs to get Australians off the couch.

The Obesity Society has ranked state and territory governments for their efforts to help curb the obesity epidemic at the inaugural National Couch Potato Awards.

Queensland scored highest for its commitment to ban junk food advertising and its push to have healthy foods in public buildings.

Western Australia came in second, with the Northern Territory the worst performer.

Statistics show a quarter of Australian adults and 6 per cent of children are obese.
