A Perth Magistrate has ordered a man accused of involvement in a drug conspiracy to give a sample of his DNA to the Australian Federal Police.

Fabian Quaid, 32, is alleged to have been involved in the importation of 45 kilograms of ecstasy through the Port of Fremantle in April this year.

The court was told Mr Quaid had refused to provide a DNA sample when police officers visited him in prison earlier this year.

In evidence presented to the court today, Federal Police said they wanted the sample so they could determine if his DNA was on quantities of cash and mobile phones seized during their investigations.

Magistrate Keith Chapman ordered Mr Quaid to provide a sample when police visited him in prison later today.
